Here’s my teaching bio, written in the third person:
Eliza began her career as a musical theater performer, building a solid background in performance, music theory and vocal training. She has since appeared in many improvised musicals, including The Next Big Broadway Musical, The Monday Night Musical, UCBT’s Made-Up Musical, and I Eat Pandas (an audience favorite and 2005 ECNY nominee for Best Musical Act.)
She has taught musical improv workshops all over the country with I Eat Pandas, and on her own. Eliza has also taught improv for BBC America, and on Bravo’s Queer Eye For The Straight Guy. She has directed several improvised musicals, including “The Pearl Brunswick”, “Holiday Spectacular” & “Extravaganza” which she co-directed with Billy Merritt, and “Cafe Verge” which she assistant-directed with Peter Gwinn of Baby Wants Candy, both at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.

Student Feedback: “I was in a musical improv class taught by Eliza and after the course was over, about 10 of us have continued on being coached by her in a private group. that’s how much we loved the class and musical improv. Musical improv is one of the most challenging things i’ve ever done but it’s so rewarding and super fun. and this group is awesome. do this! p.s. for anyone worried about not having a “great voice,” i assure you, it’s so much more about having fun and letting loose than having a perfect voice. promise.

” She is a patient teacher, who really knows her craft. If you’re goal is to actually LEARN from someone who knows their shit, then this class is for you!”

“I took two musical improv classes with Eliza, having had zero prior experience. It was a lot of fun, but also really useful in terms of boosting my confidence when doing straight-up improv scenes. It forces you to listen, and to commit hard. Making up a whole song on the spot and belting it out is such a powerful skill. Not many improvisers are willing to take that risk onstage, and what is improvisation but a whole life lesson in risk-taking? Taking the musical improv class felt a lot like taking my very first improv class. The support you get from your workshop/classmates is phenomenal. Everyone is scared, and we’re all rooting for one another. Everyone cheers for everybody else. It’s a great feeling to re-live. Musical improv is a skill that not many improvisers have. If you’re feeling stagnant or frustrated about your improv, musical improv is a perfect pick-me-up, and you’ll become an even more valuable improviser. ”
