Dream maker, wish granter
Back to school! Pencils, pens, notebooks, lunchboxes, and at 2-3 new outfits from JC Penny! If you have the money, that is - and a lot of people don’t.
My friend, Ren, teaches school in a very low-income part of NYC:
“My students come to school unprepared - how are they ever to succeed without the basic supplies to supplement the basic skills? I work in a very impoverished area of New York. We are a “barrier free” school. This means that we open our doors to all children, regardless of their physical limitations. Children with physical handicaps make up a large part of my school’s population…. Our school is 95% free lunch. If parents can’t buy their children lunch, then you can bet school supplies comes after that. I have students who don’t even come to school with pencils. I have spent hundreds of dollars trying to provide what my student’s parents should have, but haven’t been able to.”
I don’t ask much from you monsters, but I’m asking this: please donate to Ren’s fund through DonorsChoose.org. She needs money to buy the most basic school supplies for her students - things like pencils, paper, markers, and tape. If enough people do, they will get an additional $100,000 of funding. And you’ll be making someone’s dream come true. You! Regular old you! Think of that - you with your dirty dishes and ratty socks could be a wish granter!

I’m doing it. You are a good person, and I hope you’ll go and give an improv session at your friend’s school.

You’re killin’ me, Eliza. I was really intent on being a shitty person today, and you had to go post about sweet, needy children and ruin it. Thanks for nothing.
