While the show as a whole is guilty as hell, the role of House is actually a deliberate subversion of Hollywood typecasting. Hugh Laurie, recording a video in his bathroom to audition for the character Greg House, thought that he was going to be playing the "Dr. Watson" role based on the descriptions of the characters describing Wilson as boyish and good-looking and House as an ugly cripple. (And the dude who cast him thought Hugh was American.)

I think creatively the show should have ended a long time ago. The only episode that was better than the pilot was Three Stories. I also liked the bad guy from Heroes as a flaming homo, and Cameron on X. But the best thing about season six so far has been watching House build a racetrack to "jump the shark".

>"Hollywood seems to allow men to look however they want, while women have to be almost freakishly beautiful to do virtually the same job."

Oh really? Hollywood allows men to look however they want? Ever notice how house, tough being an old cripple and all, has bulging biceps? And how no male on the regular cast is really overweight, with flabs of fat (those "fat" but actually pretty strong guys don't count).
Besides, 13 might be hot as hell and Cudy, well, she has that schoolmaster thing going, but I always tought Cameron was pretty ugly. And the girl who played that doctor who died in the bus accident? Awfull.

I can't wait for you to appear on House as a patient who has cherry licorice growing out her nose.

Sample Dialogue: "It's not lupus..."

if it were a man it would be determined by whether he's a douche or not. men are often douches and don't help themselves........

e-liza, my favs were the first seasons. specifically for the acting pool they created. a lot of the early girls and some of the guys have roles in sitcoms now and get consistent, high profile work. and they are really weird looking. all of them. (hot imo!). interesting how that statement related to the other paragraph...

Ugh. Sadly this is no surprise. What about this story that Casey Wilson was fired from SNL because she had to lose weight...whether that's true or not, just the fact that the rumor is out there is bad enough. This wouldn't ever be brought up as a potential reason if it were a man. Fight the power!

Thanks Vince, I loved MadTV, too - especially the last few seasons. Sadly, it was cancelled last year. But I still like your list! Thanks!

i think it is interesting that you feel that your position on house will be determined by aesthetics and not talent. i would say that is your strength (but i'm not saying you're bad looking by any means). but i feel you could provide a much more believable delivery. please do not think negatively! i'd like to see you on every major tv show for sure. 30 rock, sunny in philly, snl... omg, i would loved to see you on madtv. i love that show, but i can understand if you would think it was a terrible piece of trash!
