i went to modeselektor the other month. as soon as they dropped the first bassline, the entire place (filled with women) exploded into sex on the dance floor.

highly recommended for a good fucking party.

Oh man, I totally was a Top 5 at 10 obsessed as well! I also managed to win the soundtrack to Breakin' for recognizing a backwards song on Q94 one time!

For my money, Last.FM is the best alternative to a mixtape ever:

I agree, the early 90's were a pretty fantastic time for rock. Everything good was a little ragged and weird. It's a shame there's no weirder stuff out there today, although there almost definitely is and we just haven't met 2nd generation Jared Kappel to show it to us.

Still, I can't listen to a new Foo Fighters single without thinking its been genetically engineered to appeal to everybody in a rock station demographic. They have mastered mediocrity, somehow, and its kind of setting the standard. Their songs take zero chances. Boo to that.

Didn't we actually go to Q94 one time to stalk Billy Surf?
You forgot mention that the station was incidentally located at the lovers leap, dead end of your street.
that sounded like a line from a Tom Waits -
Who, I am sure I discovered from an identical mix tape by another dirty boy.

I have a box of old mixtapes at my parents' house somewhere that I made off the radio in the mid-late eighties. I used to listen furtively, and tape Def Leppard, Aerosmith, that one Love & Rockets song, Terence Trent D'arby, and strangely, Club Nouveau's "Lean on Me." The best part is hearing the DJ's voice on the fade-in or fade-out, then the little *zip* of me hitting the stop button.

Oooh, the Top 5 at 10 on Q94! Back in my day there was a big feud for the #1 spot. Was it going to be Duran Duran or stupid Def Leppard? I made it my 12-year-old mission in life to keep DD at NUMBER 1. WOOOOO.
