Geek out!

Time to dust off the cardboard collectors boxes and celo wrap - it is again the season of geek. This New York Comic Con was held this past weekend, and I missed the whole thing since I was out of town doing shows. But at least there are plenty of things happening in the next few weeks to keep my nerd flame stoked.

  • May 2nd - IRON MAN - Looking at the photos from this movie make it hard for me to understand why comic heros are supposedly uninteresting to a female market. A buff Robert Downey Jr in a tank top? Sweating intensely in a robotics lab? Terrence Howard in a uniform? Clearly the market for this movie is sexy librarians. Don’t F this up, Favereau.
  • June 13th - Incredible Hulk - Enh. I am almost as wary of Ed Norton as I am of John Favereau, but at least there’s a Robert Downey Jr. / Tony Stark cameo to look forward to.
  • Jul 18 -Dark Knight - Supposedly Jack Nicholson warned Heath Ledger to be careful when he took the role of the Joker - that the intensity could be too hard to bear. In hindsight, that is less badass than it is sad, but either way - spooky. Whatever you think, this will be an amazing movie.
  • TOMORROW NIGHT - Comic Book Club with Chris Claremont - When I was asked to be a guest on this week’s Comic Book Club at the PIT, I might have peed a little. The other guest is CHRIS CLAREMONT. Chris Claremont, record holder for the longest consecutive run as writer for a comic book (Uncanny X-Men - 16 years!) Chris Claremont who created New Mutants and X-calibur and most of my favorite comic book characters. Chris Claremont, who wrote the first comic book I ever bought, and many of the ones that followed. Come see me and Chris Claremont talk about Chris Claremont! The Comic Book Club - Tuesday April 22nd at 8pm - The PIT - 154 West 29th Street (at 7th Ave)
