YAT week 12

YAT - The Year of Awesome Things, in which I attempt to do at least one awesome thing every week.Â

Ok, so I didn’t do week 11 - I think it was covered with all my summerstage ranting, though.

Week 12 was busy - too busy for any monumentally excitingly awesome thing - but there were a lot of cool drips and drabs….

Baby Wants Me -Â After doing a week of Baby Wants Candy shows, they took me out for a drink and asked me to officially join the cast (I had been permanently sitting with the NYC show until then). Not only was this an honor because of the general prestige of the show (they are one of the most well known improv groups in the world) but also because they are such a great group of people to work with. So it’s like a bunch of people I really like asked me to officially be friends with them, which feels pretty great.

Del Close Marathon -Â The DCM is a 50-hour annual improv fest that starts at 7pm on Friday and continues until 9pm on Sunday night. It’s always a lot of fun, and sweat, and beer, and comedy. This year I didn’t really hang out at the theater, but it was great to run into improvisors from all over the country as we walked around the city. Also, we had a great time slot for our I Eat Pandas show (Saturday at 5, right before the UCB4!) and the house was crazy packed (people sitting on the stage and back wall). We got another embarrassing standing ovation. Having the problem of awkwardly not knowing what to do with yourself while people stand up and clap for you is probably the best problem ever. (Way better than my problem with apple juice and gas!)

Kidnapping -Â My friend, Sara, moved back home to Richmond this weekend (NOT an awesome thing) to have her baby (VERY awesome thing.) On Wednesday, in the midst of her packing, a few of her friends kidnapped her and took her to lunch. After lunch we walked around Central Park and went to the zoo. She had never been to the zoo, and wanted to see it before she moved away. As an extra zoo bonus, we saw a bunch of baby monkeys! It seemed fitting since Sara is expecting her own baby monkey now. It also made me feel like this is the right path for her, which made me a lot less sad to see her go.
