YAT - week 7
My Year of Awesome Things project. Every week I’ll do something totally awesome - or in the case of week 7, something truly outrageous.

The BEATdown Finals Crew -
me, Petty Cash, Miss CKC, The VelociRapper, King SuperNutz, MC USB Port, Shockwave, and in front - the winner, MC Carl Winslow
1) Double sell out!! On Saturday night I had two shows - Eliza Skinner is: Shameless at 7:30 and BEATdown at 10pm. They both sold out. BOOM. Of course, I can’t take all the credit for that. Shameless was up with Jim Santangeli’s show, My Big Fat, which drew a big crowd also. Our combined shows have enough food props to at least accomodate a small camping trip, so I like running with him. The BEATdown has a ton of great performers drawing people to the show - especially my co-producer, Shockwave - and it’s really much fun for the audience, so it sells out a lot.

2) Bentley the kitten. On my way home from work yesterday I found a kitten smushed in a chain link fence. When I determined that he was alive and ok, I got him out of the fence and walked the 1.5 miles home home carrying him on my shoulder. I told my super about him and asked if I could keep him - his answer was yes…until October (when my landlord returns from the Czech republic. ) He’s sweet and friendly, although understandably nervous, and I have tenatively named him Bentley. I am half-heartedly trying to find him a home, but for now it is nice to have a kitten living in my bathroom.

We are the Misfits, our songs are better.
3) Pizzaz and the Misfits Jem and the Holograms went up at the UCB last night, with me playing Pizzaz, Jem’s rival & the evil leader of the Misfits. It was fun, but after the show I felt like total shit - it’s hard to act really angry for 45 minutes! I guess it paid off, though - here’s what the Comedy Central Insider blog had to say about the show:
“Glennis McMurray as Jem/Jerrica Benton and Eliza Skinner as Pizzaz carried the show with their sweet singing voices and sharp comedic timing. Other stand outs were Jeff Hiller as Synergy and Becky Yamamoto as Aja but the whole cast was great. I’m going to stop raving - just go see Jem next time its playing - I know I will.”
Smell me!

Me & Greg Burke as Eric Raymond, pretty much not acting.
4) 48 HFP Award! After the Jem show, I got a text message that “Just Talk” - my 48 Hour Film Project Submission - won the Audience Award in our section. Well, we tied for it. But still! This caused such instant excitement, I literally punched my DP, so…I might need to find someone else to shoot my next project.
Pretty good week!

I just came accross your site by accident, and first I wanted to say that you do look like Pizzazz and that’s awesome. Second, where did you get that wig? I’ve been looking for one because I’m gonna be dressing up as Pizzazz for Halloween this year, and I can’t find an exact match.
Thanks!

Was this (the Jem show) recorded at all? Was it for…? A university show? Man, you look so killer, I’d die to see it! I hope you’ll let me know if it can still be viewed anyhow!

I have gotten a lot of questions about Jem and the Holograms - here are some answers.
I am not a cosplayer - I’m an actor.
That was a play at the Upright Citizens Brigade theater in NYC.
It has been entered into the NY Fringe Festival, so we might do it again this summer.
The costumes were made by a professional costume designer named Angela Harner. - http://uk.imdb.com/name/nm2770511/maindetails
