Best Year Ever – week one
Okay, first of all I have to think of a new name for this project, since I just realized that the acronym ends up being BYE. Which seems to indicate that the last “Awesome Thing” I will do at the end of the year is carve Depeche Mode lyrics into my chest and hang myself with a bedsheet. Also, it sounds like I’m working for VH1. So, I’m taking suggestions for a new name.
Anyway, what I found during the first week is that the fun seems to be in trying to find something awesome to do. To that end, I have said yes to pretty much everything that I’ve been offered this week. On their own, none of them were quite awesome enough to carry the whole week but when you add them all up, I think I completed my requirement.
1) I went to a dayspa. Ok, so this one was awesome for me, but it isn’t even mildly interesting to you. You have stopped reading and are googling pictures of baby animals or porn. Fair enough.
2) I went to see a crazy Japanese band. A friend of mine offered me a ticket to go see The Cornelius Group with him at Webster Hall. It was a great show, and totally delivered on my racist “Japanese art bands are wacky and superfun” expectations. The only downside was that the crowd was mostly Wall Street white dudes punching the air and stepping on my feet. Next time, spikes on my shoes.
3) My latest Fair Game piece aired twice. The first time it followed Rue Goddamn McClanahan. The second time it was part of the best of the week. Holla, NPR fans!
4)The night of 1,000 parties. On Saturday night we went to more parties than have ever been, ever. One was in a hidden courtyard in the East Village, which made it feel like a hipster goonie hideout. One had Dance Dance Revolution and LIVE BAND KARAOKE. Two had Molly Shannon! All of them had lots of fun great people and a fair amount of cookies to steal. So, win-win, win.
5) I am about to be a HUGE Comedynet.tv star. Last night I shot a bit for a new Comedynet.tv series. For it I had to dredge up a somewhat horrible story from my past and realized that in the years since it happened, it had evolved into a pretty good story. I should tell it more often! So look for me on all those lucrative storytelling shows popping up everywhere. I’m going to be a Moth millionaire!!
So, there was some other good stuff (Butter By Nadia Sample Sale, Birthday Dinner, potluck!), but those are the most interesting ones and I’m bored with listmaking, so now I’m off to eat home-made ice cream.
(Oh yeah, Honorable Mention goes to: New Ice Cream Machine.)
