Tag! 5 Things you don’t know about me

Noah of Another Limited Rebellion tagged me, so I now have to come up with a list of 5 things you don’t know about me. I find this pretty challenging since I don’t really hold a lot back. In fact, I have a hard time shutting up about myself – from major facts to tedious personal minutiae – I blather about all of it, especially here. Plus I’ve already put most of the funny stuff in this blog. That means that the only unknown stuff left over for this list will be boring. Prepare yourself!

1. Minor in Art History
I think my bio says that I majored in Mass Comm/VisCom, but I also minored in Art History (WAKE UP, Reader! It’ll be quick!) I got into Art History through an interest in 20th Century American art – and probably directly through an infatuation with Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg and their relationship. I love the stickiness and depth of both artists’ work, and I also love that they were friends and shared a studio – they started out making window displays for Tiffany&Co.! I think they’re a great example of the second generation of thought being so much cooler than the first: Duchamp’s Readymades- BORING! Rauschenberg’s Assemblages – AWESOME!

2. God Looks Like Prince Valiant.
As a kid, I always pictures God as looking like Prince Valiant from the Sunday comics. Once I became conscious of this – and how limiting it was – I tried to force a change by picturing God as all sorts of things: rag doll, Santa, rabbit in a top hat. None of them stuck, so I finally gave up and went with it. In my mind, God looks like Prince Valiant.

3. Completionist
I am a collector and a completionist. My entire life I have been thrilled with the idea of collecting just to complete a collection. It began with My Little Ponies – which seemed like a managable idea when Hasbro first released the original collection of 4 ponies. But before I even saved up enough to buy a second one, they rolled out their next generation of TEN adorable plastic horses and I felt like I was already in debt. There was no way I could ever catch up! But I never stopped trying. Similar thinking has lead to my collections of: action figures, vintage ceramic salt & pepper shakers, musical instruments, vinyl records, rabbit figurines, comic books, and improv groups.

4.I skipped 8th grade
I mostly stopped telling people that. It makes me sounds like a freak, or like I’m smarter than I currently am. I can’t live up to either expectation.

5.I am allergic to Bounce Fabric softener
It gives me hives.

So now I tag other people, right?

Jen Hammaker will not cease from (introspective) exploration.

Will Hines likes to write lists.

DC Pierson is always up for a challenge.

Glennis McMurray is full of surprises.

Jen MacNeil is fascinating.

I sympathize with your My Little Pony plight Eliza. All three of us Morningstar sisters combined our efforts to amass the entire collection (using all of our allowances, birthday monies, and Christmas requests) but we always fell short of our goal. By the time they made those lousey flutter wing ponies I threw in the towel.

Tiffany – that’s exactly when I gave up, too!
It was just too much – and the flutter wings looked cheap.

[...] Ok, so I’ve been tagged by my main man, Nate Shelkey. That means I am supposed to write out 5 things you don’t know about me (or maybe you do). It looks like a lot of people have already done this, so I better make mine good. Here goes… [...]

    yeah, Eliza!

I want to see a movie about the Johns/Rauschenberg relationship. Wouldn’t that be good? Johns is a hero of mine.

[...] I am mildly proud of having brought a little game of blogtag into my comedy world a few weeks ago after my artsy friend, Noah, tagged me. I have watched it spread like wildfire amongst these funny bloggy folks, and now would like to point out a couple of amazing lists that have come out of it. [...]
